i belong in the silence

there is a
(silence)
that tangles the amygdala
& falters each heart beat
as these lapses
become longer-
death
becomes more visible
a scent that is tangible
    a taste in the stomach
        the muscles that move us

i belong in the in between
where the breath hangs on the tip
    of the uvula
where gazes get stuck
in the caesura of each step
where the i need you
    becomes the language that
    moves us
        forward
        under piles of regret
        & mounds of despair

i belong in the silence
the only place where i feel
        whole.
