She Gets So Alone

Fingernails, eyelashes, cigarette butts and slivers of hope
St. Mark’s Place, on the tip-top of the turn at Third Avenue
Ada, the woman in red, hung limp and loose around a lamppost
She reveals her bright beckoning bones to the one she loves
And they burn brutally like a howling building set aflame
