I-87 Nostalgia

I like the mountains
the way they tower over
the north eastern lobe of I-87
in the Adirondacks
the way their massive bodies
made of tinder and dirt
hug the highway
the way each tree is like
a single seed inside a pomegranate
which hangs from its thick barked tree

there is something magical
about feeling so small-:
there is something great
about knowing that no one
can argue with the earth-:

there is something beautiful
about knowing there are bigger things,
more painful things,
than yourself, when feeling alone.
