an ode to black mornings

something is metacognitive
about walking into school
when the hills
cloaked with dark navycoal fog
keep the sun pushed behind
their backs–:
& I feel
if only for a few moments more
that my sad thoughts &
bad morals
glow through my skin
like paper lanterns at Halloween
& I burn
through the shrouds of
the dying night
